What are Key Competencies?

The general aim of studies at the Faculty of Computer Science is to gain comprehensive knowledge related to computer science. However, this knowledge alone doesn't guarantee a job for graduates. Renowned companies, such as BMW and Siemens, are only recruiting employees representing characteristics such as teamwork, social responsibilities, mediation skills, creativity and presentation skills.

Hence, all students at the Otto-von-Guericke University are encouraged to make use of a so-called “Schlüko Coach” for key competencies. This coach familiarizes first-year-students with tools related to study courses and self-management. The students are enabled to work faster and more focused, use their time more effectively and better organize their studies. This is to optimize success during the studies and their future plans. Meanwhile, the offer is used by many students from several faculties and different (Bachelor & Master) semesters.
