Okay,
here is support for the sagitta scanner. This driver should support Gray
and Color. At the moment there is only Sagitta Gray tested because I don't
own a Color one. So please, if the Sagitta Color works, send me a mail.
Perhaps this would stop my sleepless nights, lying in my bed, staring at
the wall and asking : " Will it work...". My psychotherapist says, that's
because of my fear of .... ehh --- so please mail me. Of course it could
also happen, that it doesn't work. Than mail me, too. If you want to tell
me, how great the driver works; you guest it ... mail me.
So far, lets come to the driver. The Sagitta scanners are connected by a controller card to the PC. For data transmission they use an IRQ. By the fact that only the Linux kernel can handle IRQs, there is the need of and kernel device drivers. It also improves the speed of the driver, when it's located in the kernel.
So I had to write 2 drivers, a kernel driver and a sane backend. The kernel driver is available as kernel patch; at the moment only for kernel 2.2.0.
this is the patch for the kernel 2.2.0 : http://www.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/~aherms/sagitta/sagitta-0.4.patch-2.2.0.gz
this is the patch for sane-1.00 : http://www.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/~aherms/sagitta/sane-sagitta-0.4.patch.gz
how to apply and configure these, you can read in :
http://www.cs.uni-magdeburg.de/~aherms/sagitta/README.sagitta
It seems that noone actually have a sagitta-scanner
or plans to use it under linux. If there is someone and he needs a driver
for his kernel: mail me and I will do. As long as I get no response, there
will be no new drivers. Beside I don't
really like to use this scanner under Linux. I own a nice flatbed scanner
but as long as it is not supported (no specs, but there's now a alpha
driver) I have to use the sagitta.
If you have comments, suggestions, hints please mail me to aherms@cs.uni-magdeburg.de
